First step for starting a mom blog in 2019:
Reserve your space on the world wide web! You need your platform set up and ready so you can start to make money.
Honestly, it is kind of exciting to set up your website, add posts and share your thoughts and ideas with the world.
I want to mention here that it is VERY important to set up a self-hosted blog (through wordpress.org). I started with a self-hosted site and did not have the trouble that I have read about from other successful bloggers who started out with a free service. I was serious about my blog and planned to grow and monetize it right from the start. If you too are serious and plan to make money with your blog, free isn’t better!
Just an FYI – Bluehost sets you up with WordPress.org automatically!
Your thoughts might be, “But I don’t have a lot of money. Why is self-hosted better? Give me the hard facts!”
It’s a fair question and one I don’t mind answering.
Here are a few reasons “free” isn’t better:
- Free services can make changes at any time without notice. Self-hosted won’t do that.
- Free sites have a tendency to put restrictions on how much money you are able to make.
- With free sites, your website name will typically be long making it harder for people to remember.
Self-hosted benefits:
- With self-hosted (Bluehost with WordPress) you own your site and all it’s data. No one can take anything down or off your site.
- You can add as many plugins and options to your site as you would like.
- You can make as much money as you want without sharing revenue with anyone else.
- You can use Google Analytics to get important data about your site traffic and users.
- You can easily start a subscription site where readers pay you money each month or year for information or products.
- You can start an online store right through your website.
Go with a professional looking WordPress.org site! You will be so glad you started off on the right foot. One last reminder – Bluehost automatically sets you up with WordPress (yep, that makes it easier for you!)

Do you know what hosting is? No worries if you don’t! I didn’t either when I first got going.
In order for your site to be seen on the internet you have to have a “Host” to make sure your site is up and running. There are gobs of hosting companies out there. As with anything, there are good and bad companies. Be very careful going with just any company you find.
Horror story of my own: Although I did a lot of things right, this is one mistake I DID make! I went with a “sub par” hosting company when I first started out. When I needed help or had questions, I only had email support. NO person to person phone contact or any type of live interaction. It was the worst decision I made! I had to migrate my website (or move my website from that hosting company to a much better platform). When I realized how difficult that was going to be I hired it done! Yep, it cost me more money to get this done. Don’t make this mistake!
I highly recommend that you go with Bluehost! Since moving I have had NO issues whatsoever.

Could blogging be my ticket in 2019? Why should I put myself out there? What if I fail?
I get these questions! I struggled for a few years with it before I actually took the plunge. Furthermore, thousands of people talk themselves out of getting a blog started because of one little word….fear!
Listen, you get one life. At the end of it, you won’t regret the chances you did take. You’ll regret the ones you DIDN’T take. PIN the image to the right if you agree!
The world is full of successful people who took a risk. Often times, risk in business can be HUGE. Not just financially, but in many others ways.
BUT….HEAR ME WELL!!! The great thing about blogging is although you are putting yourself out there, it isn’t nearly as big of a risk as a brick and mortar business. There are some small expenses to get going but in comparison to a large startup, it’s tiny.
With blogging, you really don’t have anything to lose. In fact, you don’t even have to tell anyone what you are doing. Start!
Once you have your blog up and running, then I suggest using Pinterest as your first resource for getting traffic. It is my platform of choice and one where I have gained TONS of traffic! This post will give you an idea of how my first month on Pinterest looked. It was pretty exciting! This will show you that you don’t need your friends and family to support you. Pinterest will drive traffic as you use it regularly.

You honestly have nothing to lose. You have a gift to share with the world. You have something to say and you will never know if you will be successful unless you give it a try.
2019 could be YOUR YEAR to change the trajectory of your life! Stop sitting around and waiting for things to change. YOU have to change in order to experience change.
