Top 4 Jobs for a Stay at Home Mom to Make a Full Time IncomeIf you are a mom, I have a feeling you either want to be home with your kids or you are already home but really want (or need) to make money.  I get it!

I was a stay at home mom right after my girls were born and got to do that for 7 years. After they were in school I felt I needed to contribute financially to our household so I picked up a part time job. Did I love it?  Not really.  In fact, I was always looking for side work to do – from home.

I did many odd and end things that helped us out financially. After a series of events in my work life – blogging finally became my career of choice! 🙂  You can read my full story here.

I recently did a couple of guest posts that talked about making a full time income from home.  I was SO impressed with the women I interviewed AND the response from my readers was HUGE – so I  thought it would be a good idea to create a post just for stay at home moms who need income.

Let’s dive in and find you something to generate income from home:

1.  Proofreading

By FAR – I have received more emails about this ONE post than any other!  So, I felt it needed to be on the list.

Proofreaders are needed for various businesses, organizations and online marketers. They are used to make sure that any type of printed word is spelled right, flows properly and is basically error free. You can make great money with this type of business AND it can be done completely from home!

I have hooked up with a fabulous gal who does this very thing – and teaches others to do the same.  You can click here for more info on the course OR you can read my entire interview by clicking here.

The bottom line is this – if you can read and are willing to learn how to start a proofreading business, this really could be our ticket to making a great living from home.

2.  Virtual Assistant

Who hasn’t heard of Virtual Assisting these days? SO many are using Virtual Assistants to do multiple tasks for them.

Not sure what a Virtual Assistant (VA) is?  A Virtual Assistant does multiple tasks including writing, email maintenance, social media marketing and MUCH more all from their laptop in the comfort of their home. Click here to see over 150 tasks that a VA can offer to their clients.

You don’t have to offer ALL of these – only the ones you are good at or would enjoy doing. You can slowly, over time, add more tasks to your portfolio which makes you more marketable and more in demand.

This post is a great interview with one of the Internets most successful Virtual Assistants!  If you would like to take a look at her course and see if it might be a fit for you – click here.

How to Start a Blog and What to Blog About in 2019 and Beyond3.  Blogging

4.  Freelance Writing

Content marketing – or reaching out to others through articles, posts, social media marketing and other platforms has become HUGE in the last decade!  There are millions of websites and online businesses that need to talk the language of their customers so they can create a following and ultimately make money.  It is a big business and a place where great writers are needed.

If you have enjoy writing as a hobby or have always wanted to be a writer – then this might be a solution for you.

Many small business owners don’t have the skill or time to write content for their website or business. Instead, they look for people who are great writers to create really good content for them.  Hiring a freelance writer takes a huge job off their plate giving them more time for other things that need their attention.

It works out great for you because you get to work from the comfort of home and set your own schedule.  You get to set your rate of pay and can work around the things that are most important to you.

If this sounds interesting to you I suggest first taking a look at this post that walks you through the simple process of getting started.  If you are ready to take it a step further and want an in depth “hold your hand” guide – then I suggest taking a look at this course that teaches others how to get set up, find new clients, and start making money.

75 Ways to Make Money With NO Boss and NO Job!BONUS IDEA:  In Home Day Care

I know what your thinking!  “Tammy, this is NOT fun and is NOT what I want to do!”

Look, I know this is NOT glamorous or exciting! But how badly do you want to get home to your kiddos or fire your boss?  There are TONS of moms who would rather leave their babies with someone they actually know and trust. This could be your “quick ticket” to getting home in the next few weeks. Once home, you could begin the process of getting your dream work at home career started.

My mom did this for quite a few years when I was small.  Her reason?  She desperately wanted to be home with her kids.  She kept 4 or 5 pre-school age children in our home.

I have also worked with small children a few times as a stay at home mom.  Once a mom friend of mine (who was a former teacher) took an 8-week job filling in for a teacher friend who was on maternity leave.  My friend had a small son so I watched him during her short term job. It was a win-win for both of us.  I also transferred a junior high boy from his school to another school for an entire year for tutoring. I made $100 a week doing this and it was super easy!

ANY mom can do this!  If the goal is to get you home – this is a very do-able option.Once home – you can start your blog or a side business that you are more excited about!  The in home day care could be just a brief stop-gap before getting to do what you are super excited about!

The pros:

  1. You never have to leave your house
  2. You still get to care for your kids
  3. There is no gas, wear and tear on your car or commute
  4. You can set a schedule that works for you and the children you keep
  5. You get to decide who you keep – and who you would rather not keep
  6. You don’t have to wear high heels and fancy clothes.  Just be casual.

If you talk to my mom, it was a tough job some days.  She longed for adult conversation and was very tired at the end of the day – but an in home day care filled a financial need AND the desire to stay home with her kids.

Let’s close this out –

The point here is that you want to work from HOME!  As I said before, it won’t be glamorous, however, if it brings in money AND keeps you at home then you have met your goal of family and finance.  THAT is what we are going for.

Remember this as well – starting is more important than getting something perfect.  If you are struggling with that first step – I encourage you to read the book, Start.  It talks about the importance of just getting going – after that, the rest will start to fall into place.
